If you’re tired of seeing mice in your house and garden, then you need to take action quickly. Mice can be a real nuisance, but there are plenty of ways that you can get rid of mice without spending any money. You just need to do some research first, so then you know how effective each method is going to be before trying it out yourself.
Try a Box Trap
If you’re looking for a relatively simple and effective way to catch mice, try using a box trap. Box traps are similar to bait traps but they’re made from wood instead of metal. You can make your own or buy them commercially at most hardware stores; they come in different sizes and shapes depending on what type of mice you’re trying to catch.
To use this method, place the box trap along walls where there are mouse droppings or burrow holes (you’ll know if there is one because it will look like there’s been some digging going on). Place some bait inside the box—mice are curious creatures so even if they spot a trap, they will be interested in seeing what’s inside it! Once the rodent has entered, pull down on both sides of the door until it latches shut behind him/her!
Set Up a Do-It-Yourself Trap
Place a piece of wooden board against the wall and then putting some food on top. When the mice climb up the board to get to the food, you can quickly reach over and flip the board over, trapping the mice inside.
This trap is easy to make using a few household items. You will need:
- A piece of wood or cardboard that is 1 inch thick or less. It should be at least 4 inches longer than the mouse, but no wider than 3 inches across (this keeps it from being too heavy for you).
- Peanut butter, jelly, or other sticky food that will attract mice.
- Duct tape/masking tape (optional) to secure your bait in place on the board. If you’re using a glue trap instead, then this step isn’t necessary!
Kitchen Trash Cans with Lids
Put a lid on your kitchen trash can. Mice will not climb over the top, and they don’t like getting wet. A small amount of water in the bottom of the can will deter them even more.
Live Mouse Traps
Live traps are a humane way to get rid of mice. In order to set up a live trap, you’ll need:
- A cardboard box (the size of the box depends on how many mice you’re trying to catch)
- Something for bait (anything will do as long as it’s food-related and appealing to mice)
Once you have your supplies together, bait the trap by placing some of the bait inside where they can reach it through the open end of their enclosure. Place them in areas where there is evidence of rodent activity—usually places like attics or basements that don’t see much sunlight—and wait for them to find their way inside!
Once they enter, shut off all lights, so there’s no chance they’ll escape into another room or building through another opening (and make sure no pets get into trouble).
When you’re ready, release them outside so they can enjoy real freedom after being stuck in that little cage all night long! Live traps are one method among many others out there, but one thing remains true across all methods: if not left alone overnight, then sooner or later, these little critters will eventually die from lack of food/water.
